The most used containers in the world are dry containers. 90% of all goods shipped by sea being shipped in the dry containers. All United Arab Emirates Ports operate with dry 20 feet and 40 feet containers. The 9th largest container port in the world Jebel Ali Port has a capacity of handling over 15 millions TEUs per year where the second largest port in the UAE Khalifa Port has an annual container volume of 2.5 million TEUs only.

Dry containers 20' and 40' (general purpose) are manufactured from either aluminium or steel. They are suitable for most types of cargo. Aluminium dry containers have a slightly larger payload than steel, and steel dry containers have a slightly larger internal cube.
